How might an online or blended classroom teacher use Fair Use when gathering resources for educational purposes? Teachers must consider four main factors when using copyrighted materials. First, what is the purpose? It should be educational and not commercial. Second, the amount of the material used should be a part, not whole. Making copies of an entire textbook is not fair use. Teachers can copy a page with several paragraphs or certain activities. Third, teachers must consider the effect of using the material. Fourth, teachers must consider the nature of the work.

What observations have you made about Fair Use and the TEACH Act and how has it changed your approach to finding reliable content for your students? Fair use applies to anyone while the TEACH Act applies specifically to educators. The latter is designed for accredited non-profit institution with a limited number of students. It can be for asynchronous or "live" classes.

Definition of open educational resources: This refers to educational materials that are available for immediate use in classrooms. These materials are free and openly licensed. Here are several types of Creative Commons licenses that individuals may find: non-commercial, attribution, share alike and no derivative works. It is important to note that just because it is from Creative Commons it might not be "free".  Doing a Google search by selecting advanced mode is a helpful way to find material.

The web tool I chose is Little Bird Tales. This is one of my favorite Web 2.0 tools. The user-friendly and intuitive icons make this a simple choice for students. In this example, students will create a story about their favorite movie. They must write the sentences on the page as well as narrate it. Then they will select an image to represent their story. There is an app available so students can complete this on an iPhone. This tool differentiates the assessment by giving students freedom to choose and create. There are several learning styles that are addressed in this assessment as well.

The tool I chose was Prezi. This is a presentation format that is easy to create as well as simple to follow. It appeals to the different learning styles of students. Additional instruction and guided practice is also provided. The example provided uses a video, narrated play as well as questions.

Benefit of differentiated instruction allows students to increase mastery and achievement by catering to different learning styles.

1. Prezi http://prezi.com/  - This site allows both teachers and students to create presentations. Users can embed videos and images. This is free. I love prezi!
2. Padlet http://padlet.com/ - This site allows both teachers and students to post thoughts and images. It can be used as a survey in the classroom or online setting. It is free to use.
3. Animoto https://animoto.com/ - Both teachers and students can use this to create short videos. Users can upload images and music. This can be for presentational purposes. It is free to use.
4. Photopeach https://photopeach.com/ - This is one of my favorite sites. It is free to use. Both students and teachers can create video presentations using their own images and music. Users can select music from YouTube. Additionally teachers can use this to create a quiz as a formative assessment. It is free.
5. ToonDoo http://www.toondoo.com/ - This free website allows users to create cartoons. Both students and teachers can use this to create presentations with dialogues or a storyboard. It is easy to use as well as fun and creative.
